Garden Ridge officially became a city on July 6, 1972, thanks to the determination of 200 residents who sought independence from the regulations of San Antonio and Schertz. They quickly rallied together, signed a petition, and made their way to the County's office to establish Garden Ridge. For several years, the city was self-governed by these dedicated residents until the Council introduced a tax and began to hire employees. Today, they continue to honor the visionaries who created this hidden gem in the Hill Country.
